Gombe United must attack Sunshine Stars, says Bakare

The Savannah Scorpions will lock horns with the Owena Whales this weekend, and the striker urged his colleagues to go all out against the Akure outfit

Gombe United’s Idris Bakare urges his teammates to be on the attack against Sunshine Stars when the two sides meet in a Nigerian topflight clash on Sunday

The Savannah Scorpions lost 5-1 to Plateau United last weekend, which saw them fall to 18th in the Nigeria Professional Football League table.

They have now picked up just four points from their last five matches in the topflight and the striker insists they must secure maximum points against the troubled Akure side.

“Sunday’s match against Sunshine Stars is a must-win one for us, so we have to go all out without being over anxious or over adventurous. We have to attack until the final whistle. There’s is no point trying to be afraid,” Bakare told Goal.

“We can’t start leaving the back door open and start conceding too many goals, we’re going to have to score far more goals than we concede to win a game of football.

“Our big games are Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, Nasarawa United and Elkanemi Warriors. It is about performing like that against those clubs, which give you a better chance to win the game.”
