Former Delta governor Ibori denies receiving NDDC contracts

A former governor of Delta state Chief James Onanefe Ibori has denied allegations by Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta, linking him to contract scams in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

It would be recalled that the Niger Delta minister, following the ongoing probe by the National Assembly on wastages in the Commission had alleged that James Ibori was a beneficiary of the numerous contracts granted to government officials from the region.

Mr. Tony Eluemunor, the media assistant to Ibori in a statement said categorically that his principal never solicited for, or was awarded, or indeed executed, any contract with NDDC or any government agency, at any time, for that matter.

“On hearing the news of the alleged Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contract awarded to him this morning, from the former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as published in a newspaper and other online publications, he did not want to join in the ‘dancing in the market square’ going on in the NDDC right now.

“And in all, he has been through in and out of public office, he has never been accused of being a government contractor, let alone a failed one hence he did not want to dignify the allegation with a response because it is ridiculous,” he stated.

The statement urged the Niger Delta minister to refrain from peddling such allegations and rather to focus on the task at hand which is to sanitize the commission and the region at large.
