Vice President Yemi Osinbajo believes that education is not complete without incorporating morals and uprightness in children.

To this end, Osinbajo virtually inaugurated the school-based Management Board of Adawiyya Girls Academy in the Minannata community, Sokoto State, according to a statement from his spokesman, Laolu Akande. 

The Adawiyya Girls Academy, established in partnership with Text Foundation, is a digital and foundational literacy nonprofit organisation aimed at providing high-quality education to young girls from less privileged backgrounds using modern education tools.

A section of the school dedicated to entrepreneurship focuses on STEM education. 

Osinbajo recognized the founder of the Academy, Hajia Rabiatu Adawiyya, from whom the school takes its name.

“Despite the fact that she did not undergo formal education, she understands a reality that even the best minds are only just realising that when you educate a girl, you educate a whole society.

“Ignorance has no benefit, ignorance is darkness but education is the bright light of knowledge that can help us to live healthier, happier and more prosperous lives.

“Education is dangerous without morals and uprightness; we must teach our children the highest standards of honesty, piety, and hard work.

“I am glad that the students of Adawiyya Girls Academy Sokoto have this great opportunity of being offered both conventional and religious education using the most advanced modern teaching tools available in our time. “

The Vice President noted the passion Adawiyya has for educating young girls from humble backgrounds, stating “her dream is today a reality and has started a movement that will bring about the education of millions of girls from poor families across Nigeria.”

The Vice President also praised the leaders of the Minannata community, specifically the traditional chiefs led by Alhaji Aminu Riskuwa, for their dedicated service to the people. 

The Vice Chancellor of Uthman Dan Fodio University (UDUS), Prof. Lawal Bilbis, was represented by the UDUS Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics, Prof. Muhammed Mahuta. 

The Secretary of the Adawiyya Girls Academy Board, Enajiyerin Enajite, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his commitment and described the inauguration to be historic.

 Dr Balkisu Saidu, the daughter of the endower (Adawiyya), thanked the Vice President for his humanitarian service. 

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers and the community, Riskuwa thanked the Vice President for his support and pledged to continue their efforts in developing the school.
