According to a report by The Daily Trust, Alhassan Doguwa, who serves as the majority leader of the House of Representatives, has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in attacks that occurred in Kano state during the general election.

Doguwa was reportedly apprehended on Tuesday at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Abuja.

The police received a report from Tudun Wada, alleging that Doguwa led a group of thugs that burned down the secretariat of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the area, resulting in the deaths of two people. A police source stated that Doguwa is presently in custody at the state criminal investigation department.

During a media briefing earlier on Tuesday, Doguwa refuted the allegations that his party’s supporters, the All Progressives Congress (APC), were responsible for the fire that destroyed the NNPP secretariat in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of the state.

While admitting that he had heard that the police were searching for him, he denied having received a formal invitation. He also denied any involvement in the violence, saying that he had never held a gun or any weapon throughout the election.
