Armed militia attack, kill 28 in Runji village, Atyap Chiefdom, Kaduna

Suspected gunmen on Saturday night attacked and killed about 28 persons in Runji village in Atyap Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna State.

Many others were injured and an unspecified number of houses razed by the attackers.

Atyap Chiefdom of recent has come under serious attack by suspected Fulani militia, killing and destroying valuables in communities like Unguwan Wakili, Langson, Atakjeh and Saturday’s night Runji.

A source told Webteam@ipledge2nigeria that those killed are yet to be ascertained as a great number of people are still missing.

The source revealed that “The attackers divided themselves into three groups and attacked the village killing sporadically and the same time burning houses at will, leading to the death of many with others injured while half of the houses in the village were set ablaze by the attackers.”

The Kaduna State government said the military has informed it of the attack in Runji village, Zangon Kataf LGA, in which several lives were lost on Saturday night.

A statement by Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs said, “The preliminary report further informed the government that the attack also left some residents injured and an unspecified number of houses burnt down in the community.”

According to the report, troops had a fierce encounter with the attackers and are still in the general area, saying that while waiting for a detailed report, Governor Nasir El-Rufai who received the preliminary report in the early hours of Sunday, has condemned the killings as unacceptable and unjustifiable.

The Governor condoled the families that lost their loved ones and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The statement said the Kaduna State Government will update the public on the incident as soon as detailed reports are received from security agencies.
