As the mountaineering community gears up to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic conquest of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain, a growing apprehension looms over the escalating impacts of climate change.

On Friday, according to Al Jazeera, rising temperatures, melting glaciers and snow, and increasingly harsh and unpredictable weather patterns pose significant challenges to both climbers and the communities reliant on the mountain’s visitors.

Among those deeply affected by the deteriorating conditions on Mount Everest are the Sherpa community of Nepal.

Having grown up in the foothills of the revered mountain, the Sherpas are particularly alarmed by the profound impact of climate change on their homeland.

The rising temperatures have led to the rapid melting of snow and ice, causing the mountain to lose its pristine white appearance and the once-thriving glaciers and lakes to diminish.

The impact of climate change is already visible, as massive ice chunks that used to extend to the base camp have now disappeared.

Disturbing research findings reveal that Mount Everest’s glaciers have lost an astonishing 2,000 years’ worth of ice in a mere 30 years.
