1. Elisha Abbo’s election as the senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District was declared invalid on Monday by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate Amos Yohanna was proclaimed the victor of the Senate race on February 25 by the appellate court.

2. On Monday at noon, President Bola Tinubu swore in three more ministers to his 48-member government. Before the Federal Executive Council meeting that Tinubu presided over began at 12:15 p.m., Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Ayodele Olawande, and Balarabe Lawal took the oath of office there.

3. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) made a N26.01 trillion budget proposal on Monday. Soon, a bill in that regard will be delivered to the National Assembly. The prediction is based on a crude price of $73.96 and an exchange rate of $700, Atiku Bagudu, minister of budget and economic planning, said to reporters following the FEC meeting.

Abbo claimed that the court has targeted four additional senators for expulsion from the Red Chamber for their opposition to Akpabio’s election as Senate President.

6. Employees of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on Monday protested the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as Chief Executive Officer/Post Master General by closing down the NIPOST headquarters in Abuja. The newly appointed NIPOST CEO was refused access by the protesting employees, who claimed that her nomination went against their wishes.

7. A full-blown trial of former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Adaeze Oduah and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) will kick-start at a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, October 17 by the federal government. Mrs Oduah and the China Construction giant will face prosecution for alleged fraud, money laundering and bribery running into N7.9bn.

8. United States President, Joe Biden, will pay a solidarity visit to Israel on Wednesday following the Hamas attacks, said Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who also announced that Israel had agreed to work on civilian aid for Gaza. Biden would travel to Jordan where he would meet the Jordanian King Abdullah II, Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

9. Lagosians have been reminded by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the Blue Rail Line rails are not a marketplace. When announcing the restart of the Blue Line Rail, which had been suspended over the weekend, Sanwo-Olu announced this on Monday.

10. After Esther Hamidu, a loan officer for a microfinance bank, allegedly fled with customer contributions totaling N1.97 million, the Ogun State Police Command apprehended her. It was learned that between March 2023 and December 2023, Hamidu vanished with the daily donation made by the bank’s customers.
