Matthew Perry: ‘Friends’ Star Dies Aged 54

Actor and comedian Matthew Perry, an American-Canadian, passed away at the age of 54. He was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the NBC TV sitcom Friends.

According to reports, Perry drowned and died at his Pacific Palisades home in Los Angeles. The actor’s representative has confirmed the tragic event.

The actor was discovered dead in his jacuzzi, according to TMZ, which also reported that sources verified that no drugs were discovered at the scene and that there is no suspicion of foul play in his death.

An official cause of death has not been disclosed as of the time this report was filed.

Paying tribute to the late star, Warner Bros Television Group, which is responsible for producing all ten seasons of Friends, called him “our dear friend” and “an incredibly gifted actor”.

 

“The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans,” it said in a statement.

Matthew Langford Perry was born on August 19, 1969, and gained international breakthrough for his involvement in Friends (1994 to 2004).

He was romantically involved with Yasmine Bleeth in 1995, Julia Roberts from 1995 to 1996, and Lizzy Caplan from 2006 to 2012.

Perry was engaged to literary manager Molly Hurwitz in November 2020 but the couple broke off the engagement the following year.
