Former Nigerian International Alloy Agu has stated that Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen can lead Nigeria and his Super Eagles side to AFCON glory after winning the 2023 African Footballer of the Year Award.
Recall that the last time Nigeria won the award was in year 1999 when Kanu Nwankwo was the last Nigerian to receive the honours on the African scene.
Osimhen capped off a brilliant year thus beating Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi to the award following his sterling performances for his Italian side SSC Napoli.
However, in a news chat, the former international Agu stated about the chances of Osimhen leading Nigeria to glory in the AFCON showpiece in Ivory Coast next year.
“It was a great one. A very laudable achievement from a Nigerian. It’s an award that was well-deserved
“I think Osimhen has always been an outstanding player. whenever he plays you can always see the hunger in him to deliver. It is not a new thing but a daily routine.
“This also means his daily routine has been rewarded. So he will continue in that daily routine which I know will lead the Super Eagles to glory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.”
