As the Super Eagles forge ahead to compete with the rest of Africa at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Honourable Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh has told the entire Eagles team to cultivate the spirit of resilience and togetherness so as to win the title.
In an inspiring speech at the team sent forth dinner put together by the Nigerian football Federation (NFF), Senator Enoh highlighted that the team should serve the Nigerian badge with love and commitment in the tournament.
He encouraged them to employ a “never say die” the true Nigeria spirit, charging the team not to play for themselves but rather for their families and the entire nation at large.
“With over 200 million Nigerians eagerly watching and supporting, your performance holds the hopes and dreams of our entire nation,” he stated, highlighting the immense significance of the team’s representation on the continental stage.
Based on the immense support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, The Minister of Sports urged the Super Eagles to make the most of every game at the AFCON showpiece in Ivory Coast.
Take the fight to your opponents and show the Naija Spirit that you carry,” he charged.
With Personal commitment, Senator Enoh has assured of is presence in Ivory Coast to offer a general support and work closely with the NFF to ensure the team rides on focus and absolute motivation.
“I assure you of undistracted support and endeavor to secure all that is rightfully yours, ensuring your representation of the fatherland is marked by your commitment.”
Nigeria would aim to win the fourth continental title after they won the AFCON in 1980,1994 and 2013.
Jose Peseiro and his side will trade tackles with Equatorial Guinea in his first match on Sunday, January 14th.
There second group game will be against host and rival Ivory Coast while they round up the group stage challenge with a clash against Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated them last time out winning 2-0 against Guinea-Bissau.
Goals from Skipper William Troost-Ekong and Striker Umar Sadiq scored to ensure three points for Nigeria in the last group game against Guinea-Bissau last time out in the AFCON.
