Middlesbrough handed Chelsea a huge shock on Tuesday night as hostility ensued in the Riverside Stadium.

 

Both sides came into the match to underline their credentials as a team. However, it was the home side that took the lead in the contest.

 

Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney scored in the 37th minute to secure a 1-0 lead for Middlesbrough.

 

 

Despite all attempts for both sides to add more goals to the match, it wasn’t to be as Chelsea was sent packing from the EFL Cup clash at the Riverside Stadium.

 

Mauricio Pochettino and his side will rue their missed opportunities in this match while Liverpool of Fulham awaits Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup final.

 

It finished 1-0 in favour of Middleborough who now advanced at the expense of Chelsea in the Semifinal.
