Arsenal suffer 4-1 thrashing by rivals as title race crumbles

Arsenal’s chance of winning the Premier League title for the first time in 20 years is in jeopardy after losing to Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Gunner’s loss to Manchester City at the Etihad has handed their title rivals the advantage in the title race. Arsenal were five points clear of City who had two games in hand before their trip to the Etihad.

Arsenal conceded two first-half goals and two in the second half that ended their title dreams. Kelvin De Bruyne scored the opening goal in the early stage of the game before John Stones added the second in the closing stages of the first half. 

Another goal for Kevin De Bruyne came in the early stage Arsenal tried to rally back with a goal from Rob Holding but Erling Haaland made it four for the home side which ended further ended their title dreams.

Granit Xhaka returned to the starting lineup after missing the game against Southampton through illness. Pep Guardiola’s side was without Nathan Ake who got injured against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and was replaced by Kyle Walker.

Kevin De Bruyne took the lead for the home team in the 7th minute as he lashed the ball with incredible pace and power into the bottom right corner. They added the double in the 45th minute when John Stones nodded home from close range. It was flagged offside at first but was later given by the VAR.

Pep Guardiola’s side started the second half from where they left off as Kevin De Bruyne stepped up again to add the third goal of the game. The Belgian midfielder was set free in the area by Erling Haaland and fired low past Aaron Ramsdale after an error from Martin Odegaard.

The Gunners rallied back with a goal from Rob Holding in the 86th minute after the defender pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a shot inside the right post. 

Erling Haaland then scored the final goal of the game in the 95th minute when Phil Foden displayed great vision and sent a pass to Erling Haaland who showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball into the bottom left corner.

This loss leaves Arsenal in a tight position as they gradually hand the league title to their rivals Manchester City.
