The governor of Imo, Hope Uzodimma, claims that the results of the November 11 gubernatorial election in the state would not be influenced by the conclusion of the presidential election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has done well in the state, according to Uzodimma, who said as much in a Channels Television interview on Thursday.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won the Imo presidential election with a massive 352,904 vote margin.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in third with 30,004 votes, while Bola Tinubu of the APC finished as his closest rival with 66,171 votes.

The results of the Imo presidential election have led to concern that Uzodimma, the APC candidate, may find it difficult to win the gubernatorial race.

The governor of Imo commented on the situation, claiming that the APC secured a majority of seats in both the national and state legislatures.

First of all, he declared, “My party did not suffer an electoral defeat in Imo state.

“If I understand the scenario correctly, Imo state had elections on February 25.

“We (the APC) produced two senators from a field of three and four house members from a field of seven filled seats.

“We produced 25 members of the house of assembly out of 27 seats the next week, which was March. Is that the best way to lose a vote?

“In Imo, the APC is the party to beat. APC has performed so brilliantly that members of rival political parties are already defecting to our fantastic party.

“Presidential election in Nigeria is not calculated or used to assess governorship election.

“In a presidential election, the result is declared according to votes in all states of Nigeria. In the number of votes cast in Nigeria, APC won.

“In the governorship election, the result will be based on votes cast in Imo state and until that is done, nobody is going to beat his chest to tell you what is going to be the result.”
