The federal government’s planned cattle colonies apart from putting an end to the incessant farmers and herdsmen clash will also generate about N1.2 trillion naira for Nigeria.

This disclosure was made by a group under, the aegis of Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative, GOPRI, which believes the idea of the colonies was a laudable one.

The group in a statement in Abuja which was made available by its Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Emeka Ugwanyi, said the idea will control the arbitrary spread of ranches thus making it easier for good policing.

“Cattle colony is the best option for Nigeria now because it’s going to house several ranches with all the basic amenities in one place.

“The policy will further create about 322,000 direct new jobs across the country and it’s estimated to generate over N1.2 trillion as an annual revenue for Nigeria. “Above all, it will permanently stop the open grazing practice, thereby halting the farmers and herdsmen conflict,” he said.

He allayed the fears expressed by some Nigerians about the forceful takeover of their lands saying no responsible government in the world does that.

“At this difficult juncture of our nation’s history, all we need to do is to sincerely & urgently seek peace by looking beyond all these divisions and give the Federal Government of Nigeria a benefit of doubt under strict supervision on the proposed colony instead of rejecting the entire idea without any better option.

“We must be committed to lasting solutions which we as an organization believe its cattle colony for now,” he said.
