Panic and uneasy calm pervaded Benue state yesterday when a large number of army personnel were sighted moving into the state in droves. Reports had it that the troops were heading to Gboko where seven Fulani natives were killed and burnt to death few days back.

But in a swift reaction and in order to douse generating tension, the Defence Headquarters in Abuja has denied the reports and said the troops only went on a specific mission and have since returned to base.

“As witnessed with the Boko Haram menace, the military is the last line of defence. So it cannot just jump up and go into security issues. He that is not for us is against us. He that comes late, never came at all,” he added.

A dusk to dawn curfew had earlier been imposed on Gboko town following the new case of killings.
