President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Christians in Nigeria on the commencement of the Lenten season which begins today Wednesday.

Delivering the message through his spokesperson Femi Adesina, President Buhari urged Christians to emulate the footsteps of Jesus Christ who fasted at the beginning of his earthly ministry, to pray fervently for Nigerian unity and progress.

He also said Nigeria’s existence as a country despite the number of ethnic groups was divinely ordained and urged Nigerians not to do anything to put the unity in jeopardy.

According to the president; “nothing should be done to put it asunder.”

“All Nigerians should intensify love, brotherliness and concern for the less privileged members of their communities in order to strengthen the bond of togetherness.

“As Christians begin the period of increased prayers, piety, sacrifice and selfless services, the President wishes them and all Nigerians well.”
