Senate confirms seven new RECs

The Nigerian senate today at plenary confirmed the nomination of seven new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

They are; Baba Abba Yusuf (Borno), Dr. Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba (Kwara), Mr. Segun Agbaje (Ekiti), Dr. Cyril Omorogbe (Edo), Yahaya Bello (Nasarawa), Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart (Rivers) and Mohammed Mogaji Ibrahim (Gombe).

Congratulating the new RECs, Senate President Bukola Saraki said their nomination came at a very important time just before the 2019 general elections.

He urged them to help sustain the country’s electoral processes so as to meet global standards.

Two of the nominated RECs were not confirmed. According to Senator Suleiman Nazif who read the report of their nomination earlier, Eric Olawale (Osun) did not appear for the screening, while Elder Monday Udoh Tom (Akwa-Ibom) was stepped down for further consultation.
