This is usually a category that many long to watch at the Headies night. The category that has brought the likes of Omawunmi, Wizkid, Davido, Reekado Banks, Mr Eazi and a host of others into the limelight. The category where Africa and the entire world get to meet what most entertainers and of course entertainment lovers in Nigeria consider the most promising artiste of the moment amongst the up and coming artistes. The winner usually leaves with a brand new Hyundai SUV car. Who are the nominees in this category for this year Headies?
Maleek Berry, Mayorkun, Dice Ailes, Jonny Drille, and Zoro; let’s take them one after the other, Maleek Berry is a producer-curn artiste. He has songs like “Kontrol”, “Been Calling”, “Eko Miami” and of course the hit-track “Juice” where he was featured byYcee. Lots of fans are rooting for him but whether that will be enough to see him emerge with the award on May 5 or not, only time will tell.
Mayorkun is also an artiste that many are rooting for. The artiste signed to Davido’s Music World (DMW), has done well for himself over the last couple of years. His song “Mama” changed many people’s opinion about him. Not many believed in him when he came to prominence with his track “Eleko”, the track that inarguably paved the way for him for his walk to stardom. He swiftly added “Che Che” to that success and has become dear to many fans heart.
Jonny Drille called the “ladies’ man” is somewhat the favorite, but we are not sure he would win, since it is the people’s votes that would ultimately decide. The lad signed to Mavins Records and has “Wait for Me”, “My Beautiful love” “Romeo and Juliet” and a host of others to his kitty. It remains to see if his achievement would be considered enough to make him emerge the winner.
Dice Ailes the new sensation has convinced enough to be nominated for this category. His recent single “Otedola” is buzzing on many radio stations’ airwaves. The lad is doing great for himself, but it remains to see if he would pull out such surprise by emerging the winner of this category.
Zoro the “Oyoko” guy has had the search light of Headies directed on him. He has convinced the organizers of Headies so much that he was nominated. What do you think? This is such a loaded category; But who do you think would emerge the winner? Let’s have your take.
