A law seeking to criminalize breach in local content consumption will soon be enacted according to the Federal Government.

Adebayo Shittu, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja, while speaking at this year’s World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD-18).

Shittu said the law on the breach of the Executive Orders 003 and 005 on local content in Information Technology is expected to give bite to the Federal Government order which is designed to give local software industries and the practitioners a chance to improve their skills and products.

According to the minister, government will extend the focus on science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) to Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Engineering and Mathematics (AISTEM).

He said with the law firmly in place, the nation’s youth would be put to the right path as ICT and AI would have deeply affected the ways Nigerians labour and relate with one another in the fourth industrial revolution era.
