Buratai cautions media against being used to drive terrorism

Chief of Army Staff COAS, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai has warned the media in Nigeria to be cautious against being used by Boko Haram terrorists to further drive their activities.

Buratai was speaking today in Monguno at the occasion of this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) holding from 29 June – 7 July 2018 at Monguno Borno state. This year’s theme is “The Nigerian Army and National Security: A Panacea for Nigeria’s Economic Development”.

According to the COAS at a Press Conference to flag off the Celebration at the Military Command and Control Centre, Theatre Command, the Nigerian media should realize that some of their conducts especially reportage were inimical to the success of the anti-terrorism fight and such warned them to tread cautiously.

“Publicity is the oxygen of terrorism; if we celebrate insecurity then we will continue to live with insecurity.

“The press should not allow the media to be use to drive Boko Haram Terrorists propaganda,” he said.

Other activities to mark the celebration include Juma’at prayers on Friday 29th June 2018 at all the Nigerian Army formation headquarters nationwide and Inter-denominational Church Service on Sunday 1st July 2018 at all formations and units of the Army.

There will be a sanitation exercise on 30 June 2018 at Gudumbali and other selected locations in Borno State. Also, there will be free medical outreaches in some selected locations during the celebration. Similarly, the celebration will feature military equipment exhibition and mini trade fair at Monguno. The grand finale of NADCEL 2018 will be Chief of Army Staff’s address to troops and decoration of troops with medals.
