Makinde Charges Multichoice To Partner With Oyo State Govt On Tourism Development For Economic Viability

The executive governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has charged Mutichoice, a multinational firm providing television channels on both DSTv and GOTv, to take advantage of the numerous tourist sites in the state to develop tourism into a more economically viable sector in the state.

The governor who was represented by the honourable commissioner for information, culture and tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, stated that Oyo state is proud to be associated with the multinational outfit as a core promoter of Yoruba culture and its cultural heritage across the globe through its various yoruba friendly programs across its platforms.

Dr Olatunbosun who made these remarks on behalf of the governor at the official commissioning of Multichoice Office today in Ibadan noted that the passion of the governor to attract global investors to the state was the motivation behind the huge investment in infrastructural development to create the enabling and business friendly environment across the state.

The honorable commissioner added that the potentials in the tourism sector is boundless and could comfortably sustain the economy of the state if adequately harnessed through a well structured collaborative efforts by both the state government and private investors such as Multichoice.

The event which had in attendance the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogunguniso I, ace Nigerian comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka the first, famous Nollywood actors; Odunlade Adekola, Abdulateef Oladimeji, and other popular actors, was aimed at commissioning the new office of the company for an improved quality of service delivery.

Dr Olatunbosun stated that Oyo state has about 116 tourism sites that have remained undeveloped for many years adding that governor Makinde has a well structured plan to make Oyo state one of the tourism hub of not just Nigeria but the world and as such, is seeking strong collaboration with Multichoice with the aim of turning the tourist sites in the state around for more economic viability, noting that the company should see the call from the government as a call for commitment to its corporate social responsibility.

He however assured that the ministry of information, culture and tourism will be glad to particularly partner with Multichoice with the aim of promoting activities of the state government to the rest of the world.
