It is not all the time that religious bodies get in the news for corruption related matters, but when it does it is messy and makes ardent followers cringe at the thought of fraud being perpetrated in the house of God.

Mr. Anthony Elishama, the secretary of the Adamawa state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has been suspended over alleged mismanagement of N1, 350,000.

A statement signed by the state Chairman of CAN, Bishop Stephen Mamza, who asked Anthony Elishama to return all official properties to the CAN State Secretariat in Yola immediately claimed “Mr. Anthony Elishama’s suspension is as a result of mismanaging of funds belonging to the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to the tune of N1.350 million.”

The secretary’s suspension which takes effect from June 20, 2020, pending the state executive committee’s final decision on the issue, has rattled the state chapter of the Christian body.

The state executive of CAN while expressing disappointment by the secretary’s action said that the CAN leadership had zero tolerance to any type of financial indiscipline.
