In recent months, gunmen have assaulted four local government headquarters in Anambra.

Following the assassination of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, who represented Aguata II district in the Anambra State House of Assembly, gunmen have pledged to assassinate additional lawmakers in the state.

The lawmaker’s head, which was kidnapped on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in Aguata, was discovered with a note seven days later in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

According to the report, the killers claimed more heads would roll in the note.

According to a local who spoke to the newspaper, the message says, in part,

“Wherever you go, you cannot hide anyplace.” We’ll go after you one by one because the military and cops are no longer our concern.

Murders and arson by gunmen who assault police stations and set fire to government assets in the southeast, particularly in Anambra state, have recently increased.

You may recall that upon his inauguration, state governor Charles Soludo promised to provide solutions to the state’s insecurity concerns.

In his speech, the governor extended an olive branch to the hoodlums who kidnap, kill, and destroy property in the state, yet the gunmen continue to attack local government regions and public facilities.

Meanwhile, Soludo recently encouraged residents of the state not to panic in the face of gunmen’s threat to attack other local government districts.

In a statement last week, the governor promised the people of the state that they would be secure and protected because security services and the state administration are working together around the clock to ensure law and order.
