Former Anambra governor and leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has defected to the Labour Party.
Obi’s resignation was revealed in a letter to the PDP’s National Chairman.
The former Anambra governor offered various reasons for his withdrawal from the presidential race in the letter.
Yesterday, there were reports that the former governor, Peter Obi was intending to leave the opposition group.
The PDP’s presidential primary will be held on May 28 and 29.
According to a source close to Obi, the former governor is defecting from the PDP to the Labour Party.
The source also disclosed to SaharaReporters that Obi was under pressure to leave the PDP and run for president in another party, as previously reported by SaharaReporters.
Despite the fact that several contenders from the South-East had agreed to work for him, the insider noted that his chances of receiving the ticket were slim.
“The results of numerous party primaries held so far have revealed who the majority of these delegates are loyal to,” the insider stated.
“So, he (Obi) is under pressure to leave the PDP for the moneybags, we are currently looking to find another party to accept him. Don’t be surprised that Obi will be the third force Nigerians have been waiting for.”
