Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state for defence, has lost the APC Lagos West Senatorial primary.

Idiat Adebule, a former deputy governor of Lagos State, defeated Mr Obanikoro.

The former minister’s defeat occurred just one day after his son, Ibrahim Obanikoro (APC, Eti Osa), was defeated in his bid for re-election to the House of Representatives.

Mrs Adebule defeated Mr Obanikoro with 424 votes to 119, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

Kayode Opeifa, a former state commissioner, received four votes.

Mrs Adebule emerged as the Lagos West APC Senatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections, according to Emeka Okafor, the APC Electoral Returning Officer who revealed the results.

Adebule received 424 votes, Obanikoro 119 votes, and Opeifa four votes, according to him.

“With 557 votes cast and 10 votes invalidated, I today proclaim Dr Idiat Adebule the winner of the APC Lagos West Senatorial Primary election,” he added.

Mrs Adebule thanked the party leaders and delegates for their assistance in helping her win in her acceptance speech.

In the 2023 general elections, the former deputy governor asked voters to give the party their complete support.

She promised constituents that they will be properly represented in the National Assembly.

Mr Obanikoro, on the other hand, left the election site before the counting was completed and declined to comment.
