Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum stated APC National Chairman Sen. Abdullahi Adamu was having a good time with his consensus candidate announcement.

Ahmed Lawan was declared the APC consensus candidate by Abdullahi Adamu on Monday.

In a statement signed by him, Akeredolu, on the other hand, condemned the news as an expensive joke.

The governor went on to say that there was a lot of conjecture that the Chairman went off on a tangent and decided to make a statement that he didn’t have the authority to make.

“My attention has just been called to the expensive joke supposedly played by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC,” he added.

He is said to have made public his favoured pick as the APC’s presidential candidate in the upcoming general elections.

“The majority of Northern Governors in the APC, as well as their counterparts in the South, oppose this alleged pronouncement.” On this point, we are all in agreement.”

If the effort to find a consensus candidate fails, Akeredolu believes the presidency should be fought by capable people from the country’s southern regions.

“There has been no shift from this settled issue.

“Let it be known that the Chairman or anyone who holds a contrary opinion does so at a personal level.

“He is at best embarking on a frolic which reasonable people will consider dangerous.

“We are grieving but have not forgotten that Power must shift to the south. On this we stand,” Akeredolu said.
