Senator Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has submitted the name of Kabir Ibrahim Masari as part of a plan to beat the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline of Friday, June 17 for political parties to submit the names of presidential candidates and their running mates.

Masari’s name, who hails from President Muhammadu Buhari’s native state of Kaduna, is expected to be changed after the party’s stakeholders have settled on a viable vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Tinubu has submitted the name of his running mate, a party source revealed, however, the former governor but added that “consultation is still happening.”

It was also learned that Tinubu and the ruling party made the step to comply with the law and beat the deadline set by the electoral umpire.

Tinubu, on the other hand, will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari today as talks on his running mate continue.

There has been substantial criticism to the ruling party’s consideration of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Despite the fact that several names had been floated as possible running mates for the former Lagos State governor, it was learned that no agreement had yet been made.

According to a source in Tinubu’s camp, all of the northern governors desire the job.

Tinubu would have preferred to pick Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, as his running mate if he had his way, according to the source, but he wanted the president and governors to choose.

“All northern governors want it,” the insider stated. Senator Kashim will be the one if Asiwaju gets his way. He, on the other hand, wants the president and governors to choose for him.”

When asked why Tinubu does not want to choose his running mate himself, the source stated that he does not want to be a “winner take all” candidate. ’

“He doesn’t want to be the winner who gets everything. You have to show respect for the President. PMB did not appoint a vice president in 2015, according to the source.

Hon. James Faleke, a leader of the Tinubu Support Group, was at the party secretariat yesterday, but his goal was unknown.

Faleke went in the party secretariat yesterday, according to the source, to receive INEC’s form for the presidential and vice presidential candidates to be filled out.

When asked if Faleke was present to present Tinubu with the name of his running mate, the source stated that no compromise had been reached on the matter.

“When a decision is reached, it will be communicated to everyone, and the decision will be reached tomorrow (today),” he continued.
