Bandits attacked the area on Tuesday, killing a joint task force commander and a resident of the Sabon Gero community in the New Millennium City Settlement in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area.
A doctor and 16 other people were kidnapped as a result of the bandits’ invasion on the neighbourhood.
According to a source who spoke to DAILY POST, the bandits rode up to the neighbourhood about 10 p.m. on motorcycles, shooting erratically to frighten the locals before kidnapping their victims.
The report claims that the late JTF commander shot first upon spotting the robbers, unaware that they were closing in on his crew.
“The bandits opened fire and hit the commander in his legs, causing him to fall,” he continued. They then fired at him, breaking his skull. On his way to the hospital, a resident who had been shot at by bullets passed away.
According to the report, the commander’s bones were later interred in accordance with Islamic customs.
The source claims that if nearby villages hadn’t acted quickly to mobilise and drive the robbers away, things might have gotten worse.
A call placed to the State Police Public Relations Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Jalige, to confirm the event was not answered.
