The 16-passenger boat that sank on July 8 in the Ojo region of Lagos State has had a total of 15 dead recovered.

The new figure was confirmed by the general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel.

On Saturday, four of the victims’ bodies were found; on Sunday, 11 more were.

LASWA, National Inland Waterways, Nigerian Marine Police, and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Search and Rescue teams are still looking for the last body, according to Emmanuel.

According to NAN, the 16-person boat left Mile 2 and was travelling toward Ibeshe in the Ojo Area when it was tragically capsized.

According to an earlier report from LASWA, the boat departed on Friday at 7:45 p.m. with 16 passengers on board.

By going in the late hours of the night without giving passengers life jackets, according to Emmanuel, the boat driver violated the laws of the waterways.
