Disaster: Lagos responded to 973 major emergencies in seven months

The Lagos State Government, through the state Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has revealed that it responded to 973 various emergency incidents between January 1, to July 31, 2022, across the state.

A graphic presentation shared by Nosa Okunbor, Head, Public Affairs LASEMA revealed that between January 1, to July 31, 2022, the state Emergency Management Agency, and its relevant stakeholders responded to 973 incidents in six months, compared to the first half of the Year 2021 which had 822.

Empirical evidence revealed that out of 973 emergency incidents from January 1st to July 31st, 2022, road accidents recorded the highest number with 377 road accidents. 303 vehicle accidents, 29 fallen containers, and 45 trailer accident cases.

With 165 cases, January recorded the highest number of emergency incident cases, followed May which had 160 cases. February and March with 155 and 148 cases respectively.

Data has it that of the 973 incidents recorded within the period in review, the agency also responded to 340 incidents involving trucks/tankers. 201 accidents, broken down 112, and 27 fallen trucks/tankers.

“Still looking at available data, records at LASEMA shows 103 fire disaster, 31 building collapse, 1 Explosion, 1train accident, and 54 suicide incidents.

Alimosho Local Government Area recorded the highest incident between January to July 2022 with 145 cases, followed by Ikeja, Oshodi/Isolo, and Kosofe LGA which had 122, 96, and 84 cases respectively. While Badagry Local Government had the lowest with two cases.
