Award-winning actress-turned-politician Funke Akindele has declared herself the incoming Lagos Deputy Governor.

Akindele, the running mate to the People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos, Olajide Adediran aka Jandor, expressed optimism they would win the poll during a chat at the premiere of her latest movie “Battle on Buka Street”.

The 45-year-old said her latest movie was more like a farewell to acting and movie production since she’s going to be busy which her new position.

She explained the need to allow the younger generations to take centre stage in acting and movie production but noted she would be in the background advising and supervising them

Speaking on her career so far and what lies ahead, Akindele said: “A great change has happened positively if you noticed. From being an actor, I also write, produce, direct and discover new faces.

“So, I have passed the baton of production to the young people because I have moved into politics now.

“So, ‘Battle on Buka Street’ is like a farewell because I am going to be the next deputy governor of Lagos State. So, I am passing the baton to the new ones because we need to give them an opportunity.

“Yes, I will be in the background to advise and supervise them, but let them be the face, let us celebrate them, are you not tired of seeing old faces?”
