AHEAD of  this year’s general election, candidates have been enjoined to demonstrate discipline, statesmanship and eschew politics of bitterness.

A non-denominational pressure group, The Christian Conscience, spoke at the end of its meeting at Ikeja.

A statement signed by National President,  Mrs  Yetunde  Akinluyi and National Secretary Rev Dr Kolawole Verrals, said: “When our political gladiators follow the will of God, and eschew politics of bitterness in campaigns, their followers will follow suit’’.

Over time, it said “conduct of party members are often drawn from the body language of political leaders, hence when the conduct of such leaders suggests violence  or do or die, such conduct  flows in the veins of their followers.’’

The group, while felicitating with Nigerians on this festive period, urged Nigerians to celebrate the season  and entrance into 2023 with modest conduct, prayers and be watchful so God will continue to rule the affairs of Nigerians and the nation.

It urged the Federal Government to ensure a level-playing field for political parties and ensure security of lives and properties before and during the election.
