Jose Mourinho has opened up about telling Roma fans to stop being racist after the supporters targeted Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic with racist abuse during their Serie A game on Sunday.

Mourinho guided his Roma side to 3-0 victory over Sampdoria on Sunday but the game witnessed a lot of incidents, which occurred after Jeison Murillo was sent off on 52 minutes.

Sampdoria manager Stankovic was frustrated after his side went 10 men down and some Roma fans decided to respond by referencing the manager’s Serbian heritage.

And legendary Portuguese manager Mourinho was unhappy with the chants from the home fans and gestured towards them to stop.

Asked about the incident after the match, Mourinho said: “Dejan doesn’t need to thank me, I have been insulted many times in so many different ways.

“I built a protective wall around myself, Deki has done exactly the same. He is a great man, but nonetheless, it isn’t good for his family at home.

“I followed my instinct, Deki is my friend and he is untouchable.”
