The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has described the plans by the former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola to file an appeal before the Supreme Court as an effort in futility, a waste of time and an unproductive adventure.

A statement signed by Akindele Adekunle, the Osun PDP Caretaker Chairman on Friday revealed that the party leadership in the state is aware of moves by the former governor and the All Progressives Congress, APC to file the appeal at the apex court.

The party in the statement also described the action as being against the will of the Osun people and the Appeal Court Judgment which ruled in favour of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

On March 24, 2023, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja affirmed Adeleke as the duly elected governor of Osun State in the July 16, 2022 gubernatorial election.

This is after the Osun Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal on Friday, January 27, 2023, declared Adegboyega Oyetola, the APC gubernatorial candidate the winner of the gubernatorial election and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to issue Oyetola with a Certificate of Return.

“Notwithstanding the fact that it is within their inalienable right to seek redress in court according to the laws of the land, we want to emphatically tell them that, this is an effort in futility, a waste of time and an unproductive adventure for them.

“You cannot lose at both the people’s court and the legal court and still expect a miracle or dubious ways to foist yourself on the people who have repeatedly shown they don’t want you.

“The evil thought line of a fourth runner-up becoming the substantive beneficiary of a court judgment can never hold water here in Osun.

“No matter the devilish plotting, Osun People’s will, will continue to triumph as Governor Ademola Adeleke is the new Sheriff in town in Osun and will continue to be till his tenure mandatorily ends.”

The party while restating its belief in the Lord Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to give the right verdict on the people’s will in Osun commended the Lord Justices of the appellate court for setting a good template for justice and throwing to the dustbin of history the controversial judgment of the Tribunal.

“We’re confident they’ll uphold the tenet of fairness and justice in delivering their judgment any day it is on the Osun Guber case.

“We’re confident our very revered and impeccable legal personalities of the Supreme Court will also ensure justice, fairness and Osun People’s will subsist and stands firmly.”
