Festus Keyamo, a nominee for a ministerial position, was screened in the Senate, which has caused controversy.
As a result of the misunderstanding, the Senate’s leader, Senator Bamidele Opeyemi, sought to put the chamber into executive session.
Before the commotion broke out, the nominee was requested to address the chamber and outline his qualifications for and justifications for becoming a Federal Republic of Nigeria minister.
After his address, Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Labour Party) representing Abia Central Senatorial District raised a point of Order.
He brought the Senate’s notice to several violations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution committed by the ministerial nominee while he was the minister of state for employment, labor, and productivity.
The legislator described how the nominee prevented the Reps Committee from performing its oversight duty over the N52 billion granted to his Ministry.
After stating this, he moved to delay the showing of Keyamo in accordance with legislative regulations.
Enyinnaya Abaribe, a senator, seconded the proposal.
In the midst of the commotion, the Senate President approved a motion to call the chamber into executive session and directed the sergeant-at-arms to remove the candidate.
