Asamoah Gyan, a former captain of Ghana, believes Victor Osimhen of the Super Eagles will take home the African Player of the Year trophy this year.

According to Gyan, Osimhen has an advantage over other players because of his last season’s performance.

Osimhen, 24,scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances for the Partenopei as Napoli were crowned Serie A champions last season.

Former Arsenal forward Kanu Nwankwo was the last Nigerian to win the award in 1999. Gyan says he feels the striker is the right candidate to win the best African player award for 2023.

“For me, he (Osimhen) deserves it. As a striker and seeing what he is doing, for the first time in over 30 years, winning the league with Napoli. He deserves it,” Gyan told Brilla FM.
