President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has filed a motion to halt the release of records pertaining to him from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and other US services.

Beginning in October, the FBI will begin making available 2,500 documents from its database that are related to President Tinubu.

Peoples Gazette reports that Tinubu’s attorneys in the US have filed requests to appear in an ongoing freedom of information lawsuit against US organizations that may contain data that shed light on the president’s true identity and long-running endeavors.

The motion was submitted on October 18, 2023, by Christopher Carmichael, one of the attorneys who had defended Tinubu in the Chicago records case, indicating that he was a lawyer in good standing to participate in the FOIA litigation currently being litigated in Washington, D.C.

According to Civil Local Rule 83.2(c), Bryan A. Carey motions for the admission and attendance of attorney Christopher Carmichael pro hac vice in the aforementioned case, speaking on behalf of Carmichael who has a D.C. practice.

The Christopher Carmichael Declaration is in favor of this proposal. He is a member in good standing who is admitted, as stated in Mr. Carmichael’s declaration.

Oluwole Afolabi, the president’s principal attorney in the United States, told The Gazette that he could not comment on the case until it had officially started. Carmichael did not respond to a request for comment.

To argue any reliefs prior to the October 31 deadline, the attorneys would strive to file a complete argument as soon as possible.

The FBI had previously stated that it intended to provide Aaron Greenspan, the owner of PlainSite, a website that promotes anti-corruption and openness in public service, access to the file by the end of October.

Tinubu’s move came two weeks after he lost a fierce battle to block a federal court in Chicago from releasing his academic records to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
