Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has received honors in Athens.
Okonjo received the coveted Lord Byron Prize yesterday from the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism (SHP) in recognition of her tremendous contributions to society at large.
A dinner and fireside conversation were planned for Okonjo-Iweala at the Athenian Club following the award ceremony, which took place at the Academy of Athens.
Okonjo-Iweala’s life and work, according to Mr. Christos Stylianides, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, embody the best in humanism, ethics, and values.
The head of the WTO, according to Stylianides, offers both men and women inspiration and optimism.
In addition to making history, individuals like Dr. Okonjo-Iweala also contribute to a better future for all of us, Stylianides added during tonight’s special celebration.
