The Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) strikers will have a portion of the “No Work, No Pay” edict waived, according to President Bola Tinubu. In other words, out of the eight months of income that were withheld during the eight-month industrial action, ASUU members will receive four months’ worth of wage accruals.

The decision was made by President Tinubu in light of his desire to lessen the challenges facing the nation’s implementation of important economic reforms and his recognition of the faithful execution of terms that were agreed upon during the fruitful negotiations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and all other education sector unions will only receive this exceptional waiver from the President, according to a directive from the president that the waiver’s granting be contingent upon the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment obtaining a Document of Understanding (DoU) stating as much.
