Victor Boniface, a striker for Bayer Leverkusen and the Super Eagles, won the UEFA Europa League top scorer trophy last season.

The 22-year-old, who shared the title of top scorer with Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, was given the honor prior to Leverkusen’s 5-1 thumping of Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday night.

While Boniface was a player for Union St Gilloise in Belgium last season, he scored six goals in the competition.

He then switched to Leverkusen in the summer, where has already won the Bundesliga Player of the Month award and was voted the best young player in the German top flight in September.

The Nigerian striker has already registered two goals and an assist in three outings for Die Werkself in Europe’s second-tier club competition this season.

He is expected to play a pivotal role for his club in the Bundesliga as they compete with reigning champions Bayern Munich for the league title this season.
