In Saturday’s West London derby, goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo helped Brentford upset Chelsea during their visit to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues had a strong start to the game but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Noni Madueke came the closest with a shot that hit the woodwork.
They were punished for their wastefulness on minute 58 when Pinnock nodded in a cross from Mbeumo’s right wing.
Chelsea were then forced to throw bodies forward for an equaliser but rarely looked like rescuing a draw.
The killer blow was delivered late on when Neal Maupay led a Brentford counter-attack and set up Mbeumo for the second.
Victory made it the third season in a row Brentford have won at the Bridge and lifted them to 10th in the table, one point and one place above Chelsea.
