According to President Bola Tinubu, his vision for Nigeria is to transform the nation into a hub of development, guaranteeing prosperity for coming generations and eradicating poverty.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria’s 55th International Conference, Exhibition, and Emerald Anniversary, which had as its theme “Sustainable HR, Business, and National Development,” Tinubu reaffirmed that poverty is not only deplorable but also unacceptable under his administration.

The President restated his vision for the Nigerian labor force, which ensures that every individual has a gainful job and sufficient income to sustain themselves and their families.

Nkiru Onyejiocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, who represented Tinubu at the event, stated that in the face of global difficulties, the current administration is determined to direct Nigeria towards self-sufficiency and decreasing reliance on others.

Nkiru remarked, “I am reminded of the critical role that human resources play in shaping the destiny of our nation.

Our collective vision must go beyond the ordinary, and today I’d want to share with you one that focuses on changing Nigeria into a nation of creators and builders, assuring a flourishing Nigeria for us and future generations.

“As I have repeatedly stated, poverty is a shameful thing and an unacceptable thing. As a result, my vision for the Nigerian workforce is one in which any person who desires to be employed can support themselves and their families. We will eradicate poverty by working together and focusing on our aim.

“We envision an unprecedented level of industrial activity, characterised by the establishment of one-of-a-kind industrial hubs tailored to the strengths of each region in our great nation.

“Our commitment to ending poverty is inextricably linked to our emphasis on economic growth and job creation.

“We realise that only by creating an environment with many employment opportunities, ensuring food security, and reducing poverty can we achieve sustainable development.”

Tinubu emphasised the need for human resource practitioners to shape and successfully manage people to become catalysts for economic resurrection in an increasingly competitive and changing environment.

Olusegun Mojeed, President and Chairman of Council, CIPM, highlighted that HR was now more than ever accountable for developing a progressive company and nation.

“Sustainable people practice is a powerful catalyst for cultural, national, and infrastructure development, among other things.

“The availability of talent will play a significant role in generating and influencing the conditions under which companies and nations will operate”, he stated.
