Iwobi urges more fight from Super Eagles after Zimbabwe stalemate

The Super Eagles need to persevere in their quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, according to Fulham player Alex Iwobi.

In their matchday two game at the Huye Stadium in Butare on Sunday, the Super Eagles held Zimbabwe to a 1-1 draw.

Due to their inability to secure a spot in Qatar 2022, Jose Peseiro’s team is currently without a victory in their last two games and faces the possibility of missing another World Cup.

Iwobi said that they should put more of their attention toward the next games and not obsess over the outcome.

In the press conference held after the game, the 27-year-old stated, “We’re disappointed with the players we have. Nigeria is a country with a lot of quality players; we should have been able to get more points and goals.”

“We’ll fight to the very end to ensure that we qualify, and we won’t dwell on this.”

The Super Eagles will host the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their next game in June 2023.
