After suffering a depressing 1-0 home loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, the Red Devils have been eliminated from Europe. Their Champions League campaign has been a complete disaster.

Munich’s Kingsley Coman scored the only goal for the German champions, who had long since secured their place in the last 16, to leave United without even the consolation of dropping into the Europa League.

Fans, Ex – players and critics have however queried the consistent underperformance of the Manchester club.

Webteam@ipledge2nigeria gathers that the club had also broken a record becoming the first European club to ever conceded not less than 15 goals in a competition’s group stage.

An ex – player and legend of the club, Paul Scholes in his post-match reaction has named two Manchester United players, Eriksen and Casemiro as a tool player who could be vital for Erik ten Hag’s prospects of turning things around at Old Trafford.

Scholes wrote;

“I can’t remember one good result this season. The wins were against teams you’d expect to beat. It’s not those games that define Man United players, it’s big games,” Scholes bemoaned.

“I think when Christian Eriksen and Casemiro return [from injury], that’ll make them a lot more relaxed. It’ll add a lot more experience and quality.

“I’m hoping when those two come back, things will improve for ten Hag, but in terms of challenging for big trophies, I don’t think this squad is good enough.”

“To score three goals in each of their away games and come away with the points they did is criminal, really. 12 goals, 15 conceded – there’s the problem right there. It’s kamikaze football almost, like basketball – you attack, we attack. You can’t do that at this level, you get punished.

“You get what you deserve. If you aren’t clinical, if you can’t close matches out, you don’t deserve to progress to the knockout stages.”
