Two other people left their posts in the state executive council a few hours after Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, the Rivers State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, resigned.

On Thursday night, George-Kelly Alabo, the Commissioner for Works, and Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma, his colleague from the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, offered their resignation letters.

The latest development is coming in a new twist in the political crisis in the state.

It was earlier reported that the political turmoil in the state has been evident with recent events, including the defection of 25 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Subsequently, the state assembly complex was demolished by the government, and the seats of the defecting lawmakers were declared vacant.

The letter, dated December 14, is addressed to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, through the Secretary to the State Government.

Alabo, a staunch loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stated that he resigned based on the dictates of his conscience.

His letter, titled ‘Resignation as Honourable Commissioner for Works, Rivers State,’ reads: “My decision to resign is anchored on my conscience, personal philosophy, and professional ethics. This decision was taken after deep introspection.”

Alabo and Chinwenwo-Aguma’s resignations came hours after the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof Zacchaeus Adangor, resigned from his position.
