Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ defender, William Troost-Ekong has begged soccer loving Nigerians to continue their support for the team.

Nigeria was held by the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in their first game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The PAOK defender expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and urged them to rally behind the team ahead of their subsequent games in the competition.

“I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” the centre-back said after the game.

“Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.

“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us,” the 30 year old said

Troost-Ekong and his teammates will hope for a better result when they confront hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Thursday.
