On January 26, Juju legend, King Sunny Ade (KSA), and Femi Kuti were honoured for their contributions to the music industry at the Heineken’s Afrozonz Pre-Grammy party.
The King of World Beats was honoured alongside Afrobeat progenitor and legend, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti and his son, Femi Kuti.
The Afrozonz Pre-Grammy Party, which had Rico Love, Chairman, Grammy Black Music Collective, Sheila O, a recording academy member and convener of the Afrozons African pre-Grammy party, in attendance, is a part of Heineken’s grand 150th anniversary.
Speaking on the partnership, Kola Akintimehin, Senior Brand Manager, Heineken, Nigerian Breweries Plc., said: “We see the immense potential of African music and are proud to support its growth as a brand. Our sponsorship of the Afrozons African Pre-Grammy party is a pinnacle moment in our 150th-anniversary celebration, signifying our commitment to cultural richness and honouring the legendary contributions of music icons like Fela Anikulapo Kuti, KSA, and Femi Kuti. Their impact on the global music stage aligns seamlessly with Heineken’s legacy of global excellence. Together, we can inspire and be inspired by the rich tapestry of culture and music that surrounds us.”
The Afrozons Pre-Grammy party was hosted by Sheila O and Darey Art Alade. It was attended by several big names in the Nigerian music industry, including Ayra Starr, Bose Ogulu, and KSA.
Cameroonian-American music sensation Libianca Fonji and her friends were on hand to entertain attendees at the party. It is the second time the Heineken brand, which is marking its 150th anniversary, is throwing its weight behind the African pre-Grammy party.
