Scoring First Goal For New Club, Lyon Excites Gift Orban

Newly signed Lyon forward, Gift Orban, hopes to do more with the French giants after scoring his first goal for the club during their 2-1 win over Lille in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France on Wednesday.

He was the highest rated player by French outlet, Get French Football News, with the Nigeria-eligible striker scored eight out of 10 points after he announced his arrival at the club in emphatic fashion in just 69 minutes on the pitch.

Orban put Lyon in front in the 40th minute after he was freed with a quick clever ball from Maxence Caqueret and Rayan Cherki. The 21-year-old then made light work of Brazil defender Alexsandro before lifting the ball home over Lille goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

Lyon instantly doubled their lead at the beginning of the second half. With less than two minutes played in the second period, Cherki managed to wrestle the ball free from a tangle in the Lille box before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

It was Orban’s third game in the French giants’ shirt, having made two appearances in the league. He said he was looking forward to playing in Europe again.

“Winning the cup? Yes, that’s a goal,” Orban said after the game via journalist Oliver Salmon.

“Whether it’s the cup or the championship, I want to win every match. I want to play in the Europa League. I would like to play matches on Thursday and Sunday. Playing a match during the week, it’s tiring to wait between Friday and the following Saturday. If we qualified for Europe, it would be good because we would be competitive.”

To make his ambitions come true, he must help them conquer in the cup or even propel their tall order of moving from the 15th position in the league to a continental spot.

He joined Lyon in January after just a year with Gent in Belgium, where he scored 32 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions.
