Edo 2024: Nullify ward congresses — PDP guber aspirant begs court

A disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Edo State, Adizetu Umoru, has taken legal action by approaching the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the ongoing process of selecting the party’s candidate in the state.

Umoru, through court documents, highlighted a procedural error in the party’s notification for the primaries.

Represented by her lawyer, Matthew Burka (SAN), she requested the court to nullify any actions or procedures, including the ward congresses conducted by the party.

In her application, Umoru asserted that the process was fundamentally flawed due to the issuance of the notice for the gubernatorial primary by Setonji Koshoedo. She claimed that Koshoedo had been removed by a court as the acting national secretary of the party in January 2024.

She contended that Koshoedo had on February 1 issued the “Notice of Gubernatorial Primary Elections in Edo State even though a Federal High Court presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo had removed him as acting national secretary and confirmed Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic national secretary on Jan. 9.
