Paul Onuachu: Trabzonspor President reveals plans to keep Super Eagles striker

Trabzonspor President, Ertugrul Dogan has confirmed that he wants Nigerian striker,  Paul Onuachu to remain at the club on another season-long loan deal.

Onuachu  joined the Turkish Super Lig club from Southampton last summer after a failed first six months in England. The 29-year-old failed to make a mark with the Saints who got relegated from the Premier League last season, and had to get another club to get more playing time.

The Turkish club have been tipped to sign the 29-year-old permanently but Southampton could demand up to €15m, a fee that the club can’t cough out, hence, the option of extending his loan deal.

Since his transfer to Turkey, Onuachu has been brilliant for Trabzonspor. The Nigeria international has registered nine goals and three assists in 17 appearances.

Due to Onuachu’s performances, there have been a lot of talks concerning his future, and in a new development per Transfermarkt, the president of Trabzonspor has revealed that they want to keep the big Nigerian striker.

Both parties are yet to reach an agreement, but it is unlikely that Onuachu will return to Southampton because he is not assured of playing time.

In his absence, the Saints have also been pushing for a return to the Premier League as they currently sit fourth in the Championship with 78 points from 40 matches.

Behind their run in the second division is Adam Armstrong who has scored 20 goals followed by Che Adams with 11, suggesting the Saints might still not need Onuachu’s services next term.

It however remains to be seen if the English club will accept any offers for the striker in the summer or keep him in their plans for next season.
